JOB SUMMARY

-- Essential Functions/Duties Working under the direction of the ES&H supervisor, an ES&H Specialist II performs general environmental and/or safety support services, investigations, analyses, and other directed assignments as either a member of a team or as an investigator. Employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties:
--- Assess and mitigate workplace hazards, perform studies and analysis, and workplace inspections
--- Conduct mishap and incident investigations and generate reports
--- Interpret applicable regulations and ensure compliance with OSHA, Air Force directives, and local safety policies and procedures
--- Apply confined spaces, lockout/tagout, hazardous waste requirements, and industrialized operation procedures
--- Identify and evaluate environmental or safety hazards and make recommendations for corrective actions
--- Participate in informal reviews, inspections, and audits using established procedures
--- Assist in the maintenance and inventory of equipment and systems
--- Analyze data gathered from literature or collected from investigations
--- Maintain familiarity with the statutory requirements related to the environmental, safety, and/or health regulations
--- Perform other job-related duties, as required. Requirements -- Education, Technical, and Work Experience A bachelor's degree in an ES&H-related field (i.e., engineering, chemistry, biology, or other science) is preferred or an in-depth, working knowledge of the technical concepts, principles, and requirements associated with the work unit is required for this position. This knowledge and these skills may be obtained by graduation from a 2- to 4-year technical institute or college, or equivalent formal technical training or military equivalent, and 6 or more years of experience in a directly related technical working environment. In addition, an ES&H Specialist II must possess the following qualifications:
--- Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications
--- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
--- Planning/organizational skills
--- Ability to work under deadlines
--- Ability to perform detail-oriented work. A Little about Point Mugu Point Mugu is a picturesque naval base on the Pacific Coast in western Ventura County, situated about 50 miles west of Downtown Los Angeles. It is known for its Mediterranean climate and its status as a protected wetland. Point Mugu is a part of a beach Community along the original Pacific Coast Highway (U.S. 101). The inhabited portion of Ventura County also includes numerous towns including Oxnard, Camarillo, Port Hueneme, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Fillmore, Ojai and Santa Paula. All within a 25-minute commute of Point Mugu. Aside from its beaches, the area is a mix of agriculture, small industry, and residential areas. The weather is mild pretty much year-round, offering a comfortable climate with an added dose of sunshine. When the graceful grey whale makes its annual migration from Mexico's warm waters to the Arctic seas, Ventura County is one of the best locations for whale watching in the country. You'll find some of California's best surf breaks in Ventura County. smaller waves breaking pretty much year-round. The base has direct access to good surfing and it's just a short drive to famous breaks like Rincon and Silverstrand. Beaches in Ventura County aren't just white stretches of sand dotted with bright umbrellas and sunbathers. Try any of the many local state beaches, to find great birdwatching, camping, surfing. There are miles of hiking trails that weave through and around Ventura County. the Channel Islands are the one of the least-visited National Parks in the entire nation, despite being one of the most stunning and ecologically rich. The park's Visitor Center is located right in the Ventura Harbor, giving locals prime access to all the beauty the park has to offer. Other Responsibilities Each employee must read, understand, and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to their job. Working Conditions Work is performed in a typical office environment. Occasional lifting (up to 40 pounds), constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required. Employee will be required to climb towers and fly to remote locations in helicopters. If working in a training capacity, employees must be supervised at all times by a competent trained or certified company employee. Under no circumstances should employees use another employee's equipment without permission from their immediate supervisor or manager. Conversely, employees should not allow other JT4 employees or employees of another employer to use JT4-owned or assigned equipment without proof of training and approval of the shop manager. Travel to remote company work locations may be required.
